Ascension MeditationCongratulations for choosing to improve your life with meditation. Don’t be scared away by TV’s idea of meditation. We won’t be sitting cross legged, sweating & chanting. Meditation is as much scientific as it can be spiritual. Our classes are mentally & physically comfortable for all.
Meditation is a valuable tool. For thousands of years people have been meditating to improve their lives. It has been proven to help everything from heart disease to test grades. Modern society is constantly entertaining us. We never get a chance to rest our minds and let thoughts come up instead of putting thoughts in.
We teach no single method of meditation. We teach the basics from many styles including some of the more popular techniques: mindful, zen, TM™, chakra, breath centric and many more. We show the basics and where appropriate to place them and let students design their own practice. Meditation is tough to start. Most classes teach one technique and if it doesn’t work you get discouraged and quit. Our classes give you options for every step. By classes end, you will have all the tools you need to make “your style work for you”.
We have an open approach, any religion or philosophy welcome. This class is not a recruiting tool for anyone or anything.
(Be careful when looking for meditation classes. 90% are recruiting tools for questionable groups or cults.)
My Meditation History & Philosophy of Meditation.
1983 was the height of the New Age movement, as a 14yr old trying meditation for the first time I wanted & fully expected something wonderful. Instead I was told to sit cross legged for 40 minutes and say Om. The most direction I got was, “just breathe”. While this makes great tattoo text, it doesn’t help a kid learn meditation. The next class was a guided meditation at the local bookshop. It was amazing and gave me what I felt cheated of from the other method. At this point I started looking for the “right method”. I found a number of Gurus, Teachers, Books, & devotees willing to teach me the perfect method. I studied everything from TM (Transcendental Meditation) to Zen, each promised only their path was the right path. Each swore that they had “the secret”!
After a life long study of meditation and teaching of it to others I realized that much like everything else in the world, there is no one method that works for everyone. It was a simple but ground shaking realization to me. I no longer had to search for some Guru to tell me how to meditate, I just had to learn what works best for me. This not only changed the way I meditated but the way I taught.
In 1999, I took my years of study & compared what all great meditation techniques had in common. From this I found the few boxes that had to be checked to make a good meditation. How we accomplish the checking of the boxes is what is different for each one of us. I have studied the brain, different personality traits, styles of learning, and made a wide but focused list of options allowing you to piece together & add to your own meditation practice.
Be your own Guru! I can’t dream to know what would be the best for your mind. I can tell you what works for most, or for an A type, or for a man vs. a woman. The real goal is for you to make a meditation practice that not only works for you but is something you do often. The more personal and successful the easier this is.
